Bring your appetite and enjoy this time of fellowship! Everyone is welcome! On Sunday, September 7th our church will be kicking off a 6-week series titled, "I Am a Church Member." It is our hope that this series will encourage each individual in our fellowship to know and understand who they are and how they fit in to this thing that we call, "church."
A NOTE FROM OUR PASTOR: “Periodically we all need simple reminders. Jesus was described as One who loved the church and sacrificed Himself for it (Acts 20.28, Ephesians 5.25). He has called us to be committed to His church, but what does that commitment look like? Certainly there is more to church than just showing up. Through this study we’ll see the commitment that we make to be a member of First Landmark and the attitudes that should be prevalent among a group of believers in love with Jesus. The desire of my heart is that we don’t talk about “me”, but talk about “we.” Where we understand the most important person is the next person. It is the next person to place their faith in Jesus. It is the next person who is sitting beside me. It is the next person who needs someone to listen. It is the next person who God is going to use in a powerful way. It is the next person who needs a shoulder to cry on. It is the next person…I pray you’ll make a commitment now to be a part of a connection group and then stick around as we celebrate the wonderful gift of church that God has given us. See you there. Shawn READ: “To whom will you compare me? Who is my equal?” asks the Holy One. Look up into the heavens. Who created all the stars? He brings them out like an army, one after another, calling each by its name. Because of his great power and incomparable strength, not a single one is missing. O Jacob, how can you say the Lord does not see your troubles? O Israel, how can you say God ignores your rights? Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding. He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. Even youths will become weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion. But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. - Isaiah 40:25-31 (NLT) THINK: On the next clear night when the stars are out, take some time to just look up. Begin trying to count them and name them at the same time. How does it make you feel knowing that God already has? PRAY: Father, You have created all things. You simply spoke and formed everything from nothing. I am in wonder! When I am weak, I will wait. When I feel powerless to do or change anything, I will wait. I will wait, for you are my all. READ: The strength of a horse does not impress him; how puny in his sight is the strength of a man. Rather, the Lord's delight is in those who honor him, those who put their hope in his unfailing love. - Psalm 147:10-11 (NLT) THINK: We laugh when we look back in life at those silly times we've tried to impress people. We often think that those days are long past. What about those times when we might have tried to impress God? Can you imagine impressing Beethoven or Back with our great rendition of Chopsticks? Why then do we think we have anything to present to God that would impress Him. The good news is, we don't have to impress Him so He will love us or continue to love us. His love is unfailing because of who He is., not who we are. PRAY: Father, I want You to delight in me because I trust and rely on You as the source of everything I am and need. I have no abilities or assets that will impress You or make You say, "Wow." I yield my today and all of my tomorrows to Your will for Your glory. |
